The 5 Best Virginia Tech (VT) Dorms

So, you got accepted to Virginia Tech; congrats! Now, the real challenge begins–finding the perfect first-year dorm. Not all VT residence halls are created equally. Some are a lot older and some got renovated recently. In fact, some are far better than others. Based on Virginia Tech student’s experience and tips, here is a list of the top 5 Virginia Tech dorms.

1. Cochrane Hall

Cochrane Hall is considered the best residence by most of the students. It has AC and it’s connected to the best dining halls. It is near the stadium/basketball center and DX. Cochrane is also a coed, suite style dorm. The bathrooms are very nice and clean and the common space is very spacious. Cochrane dorm will definitely have enough room to fit all your stuff in your packing list at VT.

2. Main Campbell Hall

The residence is very close to the campus. There are not a lot of people living here so it’s a pretty quiet place, perfect for studying. They are a coed, traditional style residence hall with no AC. It is located close to the Drillfield and a short walk to most of the dining halls.

Eggleston consists of East, West and Main. All 3 are coed, traditional style residence halls. Main Eggleston is conveniently located by the library and the drill field. The bad thing about the Main and West Hall is that it has no AC. Only East Eggleston has AC.

New Hall West is modern, coed and has a private bath-style residence hall. The room also has a high ceiling with lots of space and most importantly, the rooms have AC. The dorm is quiet and not very sociable. The dorm is also close to the West End dining hall. The only issue is that it is a bit further from campus.

Hoge Hall is the home for students in the Galileo and Hypatia programs at Virginia Tech. This is a coed, traditional style residence hall. The reason this is in the top 5 dorms at VT is because it is specific for engineering students. The dorm is designed for the purpose of bringing different people together under a common major. One bad thing about the Hoge Hall is that there’s no AC and it has has communal style bathrooms.
