A lot of student each year apply to be in the nursing major. Many are just following their dreams. However, it is not that easy to actually get into the program or finishing the program. Here are some things every freshman nursing major says
1.) “Do I REALLY want nursing to be my major??”
I don’t think I need to say much for this one. A very common thought, but come on, what else would we do if we didn’t choose nursing?!
2.) “I really shouldn’t have taken this 7:45 am lab/class…”
Let me remind you that coffee consumption is a must. But luckily you have the rest of the evening to study instead of having your lab at 5 pm 😉
3.) “A 76%?!?!? This is definitely going to kill my shot at getting into the program.”
We’ve all been there. It sucks, but it’s just one quiz or exam!! You just have to make sure you do better on the other ones to bump your grade up. Remember, an A is an A, if your friend got a higher percentage than you but you both received A’s, it doesn’t matter.
4.) “A lot of people are going to drop out or fail anyways…”
As many people as there are at the beginning of the year, sooooo many will decide that nursing isn’t for them or just will fail one or more classes. Stay positive and you’ll do great!
5.) “I just want to make into the program…”
This is probably one of the most common thoughts on this list. We ALL want to get in the first time. If you don’t get in then it’s not the end of the world. You can take summer classes to catch up if you get in the second time in the spring (most people do!!). Trust yourself and keep your head up.
6.) “I’m going to cry myself to sleep tonight because I AM SO STRESSED!!”
Avoiding stress is inevitable. You’re going to be stressed, you just have to cope with it and understand that it’s natural, especially with being in a new environment.
7.) “I’m going to be too busy studying to join any clubs or organizations.”
This isn’t true!!! Of course, you’re going to be spending a lot of time studying, but most clubs don’t require you to be at every meeting or activity! You have to enjoy yourself too, join!!
