Final Exams: How to Keep Your Mind in Check

With final exams week coming you will see many people giving you study tips and trying to teach you the best way to get a good grade. However some people tend to forget that having a healthy mind is most important. How do you expect to pass your final exams when you are stressed and wanting to explode?! So here are some easy tips to keep your mental health in check.

1) Spend Time with Friends

Now when I say spend with friends, I mean outside of studying. Yes study with friends but also go grab some lunch with them. Do something recreational to get your mind off of school. For example me and my friends went to an escape room the other weekend and we had a blast, but the best part was that we were bale to step away from college for a bit. Find something to do with your friends to get your mind off of finals.

2) Go outside

Sometimes taking a walk in the nice fresh air can be just what we need. Find a local park or some woods where you can take a walk, or mediate and just enjoy nature. One of my go to places would be the Fullerton Arboretum. It has many paths to walk, a nice lake to relax by, and benches if you want to just sit and enjoy. It can be just the place you need to relax. Maybe you can even study for your finals there, to get the best of both worlds.

3) Get a Color App

Now this one may be a little strange but it is personally one of the most helpful tips. Coloring is one of the most helpful ways to lower your stress levels. Now obviously we can’t all go out and get a coloring book and a assortment of pencils and/or crayons. However there are dozens of apps that allow you to paint by numbers style color. You can do it whenever and wherever. I use mine all the time and it helps take my mind off the finals.

4) Listen to Music

Music is one of the most peaceful and beautiful things in this world. If you listen to the right music than you can just slip on the headphones and relax. I typically do not listen to music with lyrics, the most peaceful music are instrumentals and classical music. Beethoven is a personal favorite of mine. Music can be just the thing that gets your mind in a peaceful mood.

5) Remember finals do not mean the end of the world.

At the end of the day we all have to remind ourselves that finals do not determine our whole future. Yes they are important but they are just a test. Pass or fail, once the moment is over, you will look back and wonder why you were so worried. We just get so caught up in the moment we forget to stop worrying and to just live.
